Follo Line Project – Railway Transport Infrastructure

2025-11-20 17:53
The Follo Line Project is currently the largest transport infrastructure project in Norway and includes the country’s longest railway tunnel. Together with the existing Østfold Line, the project will create four railway lines serving the capital city, significantly increasing capacity and allowing faster, more frequent train services.

The project plays a key role in improving mobility in the Oslo region, reducing travel times and contributing to lower CO₂ emissions and overall environmental impact by encouraging the use of rail transport.

From a lighting perspective, the challenge was to provide a robust, efficient, and long-lasting solution suitable for long railway tunnels and demanding underground conditions. The lighting system needed to withstand impacts, humidity, dirt accumulation, and continuous operation, while maintaining low energy consumption and minimal maintenance.

To meet these requirements, high-performance LED luminaires were selected, including the RANCHER linear luminaire, known for its impact resistance, tight sealing, and cylindrical design that prevents dirt build-up, and the ZOOM ZGSM projector, featuring an anodized aluminum body with a polymer coating for enhanced durability and corrosion resistance. Together, these solutions deliver reliable, efficient, and uniform lighting throughout the tunnel.

Key highlights:

  • Lighting for Norway’s largest railway infrastructure project
  • Designed for long railway tunnels and harsh environments
  • High resistance to impact, moisture, and dirt
  • Energy-efficient LED technology with low maintenance
  • Supports sustainable, high-capacity rail transport

This project in Oslo, Norway showcases how advanced lighting solutions contribute to the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of large-scale railway infrastructure.
